Launch Your Tech Career
Free, flexible training programmes of up to 16 weeks, delivered by leading universities, with a job interview guaranteed at the end.
How Skills Bootcamps Work
Skills Bootcamps provide a structured, intensive learning experience that takes participants from foundational knowledge through to job-ready competence in a specific digital discipline. Each programme is designed collaboratively with employers, ensuring that the skills taught are directly aligned to genuine workforce needs.
What to Expect
Each bootcamp runs for up to 16 weeks and blends high-quality online learning materials with live webinar sessions, one-to-one coaching and practical project work. Participants gain both technical knowledge and the professional skills needed to succeed in a digital role.
The learning schedule is designed to flex around existing commitments, making the programme suitable for people currently in work, between jobs or looking to change career direction entirely. All teaching is delivered by university faculty and industry practitioners with deep expertise in their subject areas.
On successful completion, every participant receives a guaranteed interview with a relevant employer. The IoC's engagement partners work to match graduates with organisations actively recruiting for digital talent in their region.
Eligibility
The programme is open to adults aged 19 and over who are looking to gain new digital skills or enhance existing ones. Bootcamps are provided at no cost for participants who meet the eligibility criteria and are accepted onto a specific programme.
Applicants typically need access to a desktop or laptop computer with a reliable internet connection. Some bootcamps may have additional entry requirements, such as a GCSE grade C or above in Mathematics or equivalent. Specific prerequisites are listed on each bootcamp's individual information page.
Notably, no prior coding or technical experience is required for many of the programmes. The bootcamps are specifically designed to welcome career changers and those entirely new to the technology sector.
Topics Covered
The IoC consortium delivers bootcamps across a wide range of digital disciplines. Subjects include software development, data analytics, data science, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing, DevOps, web development and core digital skills. Each programme focuses on practical, employable competencies rather than purely theoretical study.
Learner Experience
Participants frequently highlight the supportive learning environment, the quality of university-delivered teaching and the direct connection to employers as key strengths of the programme. Many learners have shared their progress through blogs and testimonials, documenting their journey from initial application through to employment.
The diversity of the cohort is also a defining feature. With 44% female participation and 37% representation from under-served groups, the programme consistently exceeds industry benchmarks for inclusivity. Around 60% of participants already hold a degree, demonstrating that Skills Bootcamps serve as an effective reskilling route for career changers seeking a pivot into technology.
How to Apply
Applications for bootcamp places are managed through the individual university providers. Each programme has its own application window and selection process. Prospective learners are encouraged to review the available courses and register their interest for upcoming cohorts.
